India recorded their first bilateral series win against Sri Lanka on Sri Lankan soil when they wrapped up the five-match series with a game to go at the R. Premadasa Stadium here on Wednesday. The Indians set the Sri Lankans a target of 259 in 50 overs and won by 46 runs as the hosts were bowled out for 212 with 21 balls to spare.

Sri Lankan captain Mahela Jayawardene lost his fourth straight toss in the series and the sixth consecutive in the tour and was forced to take the field. Mahela Jayawardene, who had become the first Sri Lankan captain to lose a home series to England last year, added a first ever series defeat to India at home too to his resume after the tourists took a 3-1 lead.

It was a great win by the young Indian side, especially in the context that they had lost two of their key player, Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag, due to injury and after losing the first ODI by eight wickets, they fought back remarkably to inflict an embarrassing defeat on their neighbours.

The Indian total was possible thanks to half-centuries by Suresh Raina (76) and M.S. Dhoni (71), who fought hard to give the tourists a total above 250. They added 143 runs for the fourth wicket in 141 balls and narrowly missed the record for that wicket in matches between Sri Lanka and India that's held by Sourav Ganguly and Yuvraj Singh, who had added an unbroken 145 run stand last year in Vishakapatnam.

The Sri Lankans did well to fight back claiming the last seven wicket for 34 runs, but Dhoni and Raina had done enough to help their side for a series win. Left-arm seamer Chaminda Vaas became the fourth bowler in the history of the game to claim 400 ODI wickets after Wasim Akram, Muttiah Muralitharan and Waqar Younis. But that was scant consolation for the World Cup finalists, whose one-day form has clearly become a concern.

Madurai Trip

Usually during my school days, I use to go to Madurai atleast once a year but after joining college I just went once in four years. I missed a lot and finally this time I didnot miss my chance to go there. We went there for Pongal on August 8,9,10 and we four, me, my brother and my two cousins as usual celebrated with our families. We use to go to temple in evenings and watch stage programmes in nights with our gang friends.
We slept at 4 in night and woke up at 8 in morning. The lunch for all three days were just amazing. There will be atleast two non-veg items, either chicken & mutton or chicken & fish. I enjoyed food and ate well after years because it was prepared by my grandma. We never had time to relax or sleep but we didnot wish for it either.
After three days of good enjoyment, we four returned home. Well my Madurai Trip was awesome and had lot of joy and fun. We thought of spending a week there but didn’t. Dont know when we will go there next time but definitely miss my village very much….

Morgan Freeman Injured In Accident

Morgan Freeman suffered some broken bones in a car accident Sunday but will recover according to friends. Freeman, 71, suffered a broken shoulder and a broken arm in the accident and elected to have surgery immediately on his arm.

Freeman and a passenger, Demaris Meyer, were traveling east on Mississippi 32 about five miles outside of Charleston when the vehicle went off the edge of the road. Freeman overcorrected, flipping the 1997 Nissan Maxima several times before coming to a rest.

A reporter on the scene soon after says that "They had to use the jaws of life to extract him from the vehicle. He was lucid, conscious. The pair were then airlifted to a Memphis hospital.

Freeman's business partner Bill Luckett says "He's resting quietly and has some fractures. Nothing life-threatening. Nothing permanent. He's in good spirits, but he's in some pain." The actor has estimated his recovery at six to eight weeks. Meyer was treated for her injuries and released. Authorities have ruled out alcohol as a factor in the wreck.

Hailing Mahendra Singh Dhoni as the "backbone of Indian cricket", chairman of the Arjuna Award selection committee Milkha Singh said the ODI and Twenty20 captain is a deserving receipent of the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award.

Dhoni was on Monday conferred with the award, making him only the second cricketer after Sachin Tendulkar to be bestowed the country's highest sporting honour.

"From my side I tried my best and gave the award to whoever deserved. Four or five candidates were in contention for the award but Dhoni was the best among the lot. The whole country wanted Dhoni to get the award," Milkha Singh said last night on the sidelines of a book release function. The 'Flying Sikh' also said the decision to confer the award to Dhoni was taken unanimously by the selection committee.

"He has done tremendously well after coming to the national team. He is the backbone of Indian cricket. The decision to give Dhoni the award has been taken with full support of all members in the selection committee," he stated. Milkha Singh also brushed aside reports that Indian ODI skipper's application was received late by the Sports Ministry. "The Sports Ministry has told me that they have received Dhoni's application before the deadline of July 27, but due to some internal hazards they were not able to trace the application. However, they later extended the deadline by a day or two," he said.

Kuselan Review

First of all, Kuselan is not the regular superstar film. It is just a film with superstar and on superstar.

By not a regular superstar film, I mean there are no powerful adversaries, no challenges, no revenge, no riches to rags to riches character graph. And a Rajnikant film without a villain is something we haven't seen in God knows how long!

Real meets reel as superstar Rajnikant plays Superstar Ashok Kumar and frankly, you can't tell the difference nor does director P Vasu want you to know the difference. Montage of Rajnikant films and references to superstar's life are thrown in liberally into the Tamil remake. Since the pace of the original is already slow, these elements further slacken the pace.

Performance-wise, superstar is a little subdued because he has to play himself. As a fan, I understand the expectation out of a regular Thalaivar film. Though it is closest to the real him, with Kuselan we realize that his screen persona is larger than the real him and it's like watching a tiger put inside a cage at the circus. We so want him to break free. To make up for the masala, Vasu unleashes glamour in the form of Nayanthara cavorting in the rain and has Vadivelu leer at her like a voyeur.

Like superstar himself says in the film: Watching a film being shot is not as exciting as watching a film. And Kuselan is a soppy drama with the shooting of a Superstar film being a mere backdrop. For people closely following his political ambitions, let me just say that superstar distances himself from the political punch-lines from his past films saying that he was only an actor saying his lines. And he hastens to add, that he does not have to answer to anybody about whether or not he will do something in the future. There's also a tinge of Superstar's personal philosophy when he reveals why he takes a trip to Himalayas every year.

Opener Virender Sehwag's 15th test century steered India to 214 for four at the close of the first day of the second test against Sri Lanka on Thursday. The visitors made a flying start as they reached lunch on 151 for nought but Sri Lanka fought back well late in the day after rain had washed out the afternoon session.
