India's star batsman Sachin Tendulkar has opted out of the first three ties of the seven-match One-Day International series against England starting in Rajkot Nov 14.

Announcing the 15-member squad for the series, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary N. Srinivasan said considering the hectic schedule during the year and also the tours ahead, the national selectors acceded to Tendulkar's request that he be rested for the first three games.

The selectors, who finalised the squad for the first three matches here Wednesday night, also decided to rotate the bowlers so that they get adequate rest. Tendulkar has not played ODIs since the tri-series in Australia in March. An elbow injury prevented him from playing in the one-day series in Sri Lanka August-September and before that he pulled out of the Bangladesh series and the Asia Cup in Pakistan owing to a groin injury.

All-rounder Irfan Pathan, medium-pacer Praveen Kumar and middle-order batsman Badrinath, who replaced Tendulkar, and wicketkeeper-batsman Parthiv Patel have been omitted.

Virender Sehwag, who missed the Sri Lanka tour with an ankle injury, and Irfan's brother Yusuf return to the squad while Tamil Nadu opener Murali Vijay is the only newcomer to the side to be captained by Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

England will arrive in Mumbai Thursday and will play practice matches against a Mumbai team Nov 9 and 11. England will also play a two-Test series beginning in Ahmedabad Dec 11.

Who's In It?
The king of opening Ultimate Star Ajith, fondly called as 'Thala' is back again after the blockbuster hit Billa with Aegan. His first and the only release for the year, it has been in the limelight since production. Ayngaran International, the market leader in overseas film distribution has stepped into the shoes of a producer along with actor-turned-producer Arun Pandian for Aegan. Raju Sundaram makes his debut as a director and has also written the script which seems to be inspired by Farah Khan's Main Hoon Naa starring Sharukh.
Aegan has Ajith and Nayantara romancing once again on screen after their successful combo in Billa. The pair shares a much better chemistry as the lead pair in Aegan. The movie also stars Suman, Nasser, Jayaram, Suhasini, Navdeep and Poi Solla Porum Piya. Yuvanshankar Raja has composed music for Aegan, making it a hat trick with Ajith. The cinematography is taken care of by Arjun Jana, an assistant to P.C. Sreeram and Nirav Shah. Stunts are by Stun Siva. Anu Vardhan has designed the costumes for Ajith.
What's It About?
Commissioner Nasser and his department are hunting for evidence to nab pharmaceutical tycoon John Chinnappa (Suman) for his life-threatening adulteration in medicines and other illegal activities. Ramprasad (Devan), Chinnappa's closest friend and partner in crime, turns approver and is on his way to testify against him in court. Along with the policemen protecting him, he is attacked by Chinnappa's men but manages to escape. The Commissioner, frustrated about the security measures of his men, hands over the task of finding and arresting Ramprasad to his son Siva (Ajith), a brave and honest CID officer. To carry out this mission, Siva is ordered to join a college in Ooty disguised as a student where Ramprasad's daughter Pooja (Piya) is a student. The Commissioner plans to arrest Ramprasad when he visits his daughter.
After enrolling as a student, Siva tries to become friendly with Pooja and her gang to know where her father is hiding. In the meanwhile, he also gets to romance Mallika (Nayantara), a professor at the same college. The twist in the tale comes when Siva comes to know that he is an orphan, finding this bitter truth from his long-lost mother (Suhasini) and his brother Narain (Navdeep). The remaining plot revolves around how he finds Ramprasad, who then leads him to Chinnappa.
The Performance
Ajith is at his best when it comes to his looks in Aegan. Anu Vardhan has created wonders with her costume design in Billa and she does the same here, in a more fashionable way. It has been a while since we saw Ajith doing comedy in his movies; in Aegan, his comic scenes with Jayaram, Kochin Hanifa and Nayantara are quite enjoyable, specifically when Thala sings his popular melody 'Unnai Partha Pinbu Naan' from Kadhal Mannan to romance Nayantara. Thala's dance steps for the songs and his style in the action sequences are applaudable. Ajith's charisma and his presence are felt in every scene. Ajith has justified his words in his interviews when it comes to entertaining his fans. The first half of the movie is mainly targeted at satisfying his huge fan following.
Nayantara has proved once again that she is the hottest among the femme fatales of Kollywood. Male audiences will be thrilled by her outfits. She is here to stay as the 'dream girl' of the men for long. Jayaram, as the principal of the college, brings in a few laughs along with Sathyan. Nasser, Suhasini and Kochin Hanifa have played their roles with ease. Sreeman, as the side-kick of Suman, gives an impressive performance. The character with least impact on the audience is Suman. After his equal and vital performance with Super Star Rajinikanth in Sivaji as his arch rival, expectations were high on him. But in Aegan, he is scripted to be merely a comical villain who sobs after killing his men for their failures. His role could have been shaped better.
For the Techie Lovers
In the technical department, Aegan is above average and excellent, at times. Arjun Jana is splendid with his camera work, maintaining the tones and shades we had seen earlier in Billa. The colorization is immensely good and gives the viewer a 'cool' feeling. The look and feel is awesome. Editing by Vijayan and art direction by Milan is worth mentioning. Yuvanshankar Raja has given a few hit songs and an average re-recording. Raju Sundaram has added another feather to his cap as a director and writer who has made this movie suiting the taste of the Tamil audience and mainly have the eager fans of Thala contented.
Final Verdict
Ajith's Aegan is a refreshing entertainer from Ayngaran. Kudos to Raju Sundaram & Team! Thala Rocks! Watch it for Ajith..!

Rumour are circulating that Vijay’s new film directed by Prabhu Deva is going to be a remake of the Hindi film Soldier. Vijay usually does the remake of Telugu hits; so has he changed language this time?

Ajit’s Billa, a remake of the 80's hit Billa with Rajinikanth in the lead was a copy of the SRK starrer Don, which was again a remake the 80's hit with Amitabh Bachan as the hero. It says that Ajit’s new film Aegan is a remake of the SRK starrer Mein Hoon Na.

Now Vijay, by appearing in the remake of Soldier, seems to be following the same path as Ajith; Soldier was released in 1998 with Bobby Deol and Preity Zinta in the lead roles. Vijay will have Nayantara as his lady love and shooting will take place at exotic locales of Austria, Italy and Switzerland. Biju Menon will be the villain.

Yuvanshankar Raja, the eminent music composer, will turn into a producer soon while attempting to picturise a beautiful story that he has written. He has started his own production house – Pearl Stone Entertainment Pvt Ltd.

Yuvanshankar Raja said that he has always had this desire to see his creativity take the form of cinema. He also added that cinema is a powerful medium through which various ideas can be conveyed effectively and he would like to paint the silver screen with his ideas. “As a musician, I have so many things left to be said, which I shall tell you in my films”, says the expert musician.

This yet-to-be-titled film will be directed by S.P. Sabha and will have his friend Mirchi Shiva (of Chennai 600028 and Saroja fame) in the lead. It is to be noted that S.P. Sabha is already directing Shiva in 16.

Also, this talented music director will work on a music album for Sony, which will release in March or April 2009. The theme of this album would be love. With the way the album is coming up, he is absolutely confident that it will strike a chord in the audience just like A.R.Rahman’s music albums did. But Yuvan has no idea of making an appearance in his music album.

Retiring veteran Sourav Ganguly made it clear that he does not regret quitting the game after the Australia series even though runs continue to flow from his blade but was rather ambiguous about a possible comeback, saying "we'll cross the bridge when we come to it." Ganguly's 16th Test century, although laboured, proved he has not lost his appetite for runs and the left-hander said it was hugely satisfying coming against the world number one team.

But he said it would not have any effect on his decision to retire after the series. "No, it's the right decision and I don't have any regrets," Ganguly said when asked if it made him feel bad that he was leaving the scene despite some cricket still left in him.

Asked why he was retiring when he still is good enough to continue, Ganguly said, "I don't want to play anymore. I have been playing well for the last two years, except that series in Sri Lanka. I feel time has come for me to go." It was when asked about possibility of coming out from retirement that Ganguly was little ambiguous.

"We'll cross the bridge when it comes. As it stands, I'm retiring after this series," he said. The former India captain also said that he was not a victim of any circumstances. "No, it was my personal decision," he said.

Kadhalil Vizhunthen Review

Romance can do wonders in a man's life. It can make a man or it can even break a man. Debutant director Prasad has chronicled the life of a youth, who life takes a huge turn after he develops a romance in ‘Kadhalil Vizhunthen’. The film-maker has passed out in flying colors and deserves credit for going about his work in a professional manner.

The end product, through gory and violent, leaves an impact with the audience.

With a lesser known star cast, director Prasad has managed to weave a sequence of some interesting and catchy sequences. Though a predictable storyline, the neat performance from the star cast, racy background of Vijay Anthony and brisk cinematography by Vijay Milton keeps us glues to the seats.

Due credit should be given to the lead pair Nakul and Sunaina. It is no easy task to take such a meaty role so early in their career. Both have got under the skin of their character to give their best. After Boys, the young actor has almost waited five years for his next. A worthy weight indeed for he has got to do a movie which one actor rarely comes across in Tamil cinema these days. He fits the role like T. His transformation from an innocent lovelorn youth to an angry young man desperate to save his romance deserves applause.

Sunaina with her girl-next-door look is adequate. It is indeed happy to see a heroine getting so much footage in a contemporary Tamil cinema. She manages to combine glamour with a strong performance. Sampath Raj, who impressed everyone withy films including ‘Chennai 28’ and ‘Saroja’, continues his good run. He plays a police officer on the run for the lover couple. Livingston's cameo needs to mention. The movie has a host of stars, who have played their part well.

Sabha (Nakul), a youth born and brought up in a Chennai slum, meets with an accident due to the negligence of Meera (Sunaina), a girl from a rich family. She ensures that Sabha is nursed back to his normal health. Her caring and amiable way, leaves an impact with Sabha. From hospital, he sets out on a mission to meet Meera and open his heart out.

What starts as a friendship blossoms as love between them. However fate takes a cruel turn when Sabha returns from Ooty after playing a football match to meet his beloved. He is informed that Meera has breathed her last. A shattered Sabha rushes to hospital only to see her body taken to post-mortem. Not believing that she is dead, he urged doctors to help save her. However when everyone insists that she is dead, Sabha slips to his own world imagining that Meera is still alive. He flees from Chennai with Meera's body imagining that she is still alive and both would lead a happy life far from the madding crowd. Anbu Selvan ( Sampath Raj), a police inspector goes on Sabha's search. He runs behind Sabha only to end up in vain in every attempt of his. Meanwhile, Sabha starts to live his own world with the body of Meera. After blood, gore and score of murders, Sabha gives up his life eventually.

Prasad seems to have been inspired by movies like ‘Guna’, ‘By2’, ‘7G Rainbow Colony’ and ‘Kadhal Kondein’. He has managed to draw a link between action and romance in the film, which works out well.

The real scene stealer is however Vijay Anthony. The high octave and peppy number “Nakka Mukka” is the USP of the film. It comes twice ion the film and it is thoroughly entertaining.

BCCI's income crosses Rs 1000 crores

The Cricket Board's income has increased manifold in 2007-08 and crossed Rs 1000.41 crore, as compared to Rs 651.81 crore in 2006-07, leading to a surpluse of Rs 303.15 crore, according to the report submitted at its 79th AGM by treasurer for the period under consideration, N Srinivasan. The major chunk contributing to the massive increase of Rs 348 crore in its revenue, amounting to Rs 559 crore, has come from the sale of media rights, an upward movement of Rs 245 crore. It was Rs 313 crore in the previous year.

Surplus from tours brought in Rs 226 crore, an increase of Rs 12 crore, interest income Rs 76 crore (increased by Rs 25 crore) and others Rs 138 crore (increased by Rs 65 crore, Srinivasan said in his report. In two years the BCCI's income has more than doubled, the inflow being Rs 430 crore in 2005-06, and the increase in income from last year represented a growth of 46 per cent.

From the cash bonanza earned by the BCCI, it distributed Rs 66 crore (Rs 43 crore in '06-07) to the international players and an equal amount to domestic cricketers. Rupees 31 and Rs 26 crore respectively were distributed to the international and domestic cricketers in 2005-06 and 2004-05, the treasurer's report said. TV subventions to state associations increased to Rs 371.89 crore in 2007-08 as compared to Rs 211.53 crore in 2006-07. The associatiions would also earn IPL subvention of Rs 203 crore constituting 70 per cent of the franchise fees for 2008-09.

The BCCI's contribution towards infrastructure development of its affiliated units over the last three years was Rs 157 crore while Rs 15 crore was the annual outgo under its Platinum Jubilee Benevolent Scheme (Monthly gratis) covering 860 players/umpires (international and domestic), the report said. The monthly gratis scheme includes the benefits to widows of Test cricketers and Test umpires and women Test cricketers have been included under this scheme from this August.

Despite earning over 1000 crore, the BCCI has pegged the budgeted income for 2008-09 at Rs 878.84 crore and the budgeted expenditure has been projected as Rs 642.48 crore, for a projected surplus of Rs 236.36 crore.

Soundarya Rajinikanth, the director of Rajini's forthcoming animated magnum opus, Sultan - The Warrior officially confirmed the idea of making Billa 2 with actor Ajith. She said that she will start working on the film after June 2009, by which time Ajith will be free from Aegan and she will be free from Sultan: the warrior. Agreed, a film like TAHAAN caters to a niche audience. But its simplicity is its USP. There's another reason to go for it: Child artiste Purav. You can't take your eyes off from this sensational discovery of Sivan.

Tahaan [Purav Bhandara] lives with his grandfather [Victor Banerjee], his mother [Sarika] and older sister [Sana Shaikh] in the serene meadows of Kashmir. They all live in the hope that someday Tahaan's father, who's been missing for over three years, will return.

The death of his grandfather prompts the local moneylender [Rahul Khanna] to take away the assets of the family, including their pet donkey Birbal. For Tahaan, bringing his favourite donkey Birbal back home becomes the sole purpose in life. Tahaan is devastated to learn that an old man, Subhan [Anupam Kher], has bought Birbal and taken him across the mountains. He traces Subhan and tells him about Birbal.

Subhan doesn't befriend Tahaan at first sight, but slowly warms up to this energetic and determined soul whose love for Birbal is paramount. On his way back home, Tahaan encounters a teenage lad ldrees, who convinces him that his efforts would never be sufficient to get Birbal back. Instead, he promises to get Birbal back for a favour. All Tahaan will have to do is carry a package across the mountains on his next journey. Seeing Tahaan's eagerness, ldrees hands him a grenade.

Tahaan sets off on his second journey with Subhan, the grenade and package tucked away under Birbal's saddle. What is the price that Tahaan will have to pay for Birbal? Santosh Sivan travels a seldom travelled path in TAHAAN. Sure, he's telling a simple, uncomplicated story, but a simple story could be difficult to narrate. The film has its share of interesting moments, but the finale is, without doubt, the best part of the enterprise. However, the screenplay is not as convincing and gripping as one expects it to be.

TAHAAN belongs to the young actor -- Purav. Post Darsheel's act in TAARE ZAMEEN PAR, Purav's is the most confident act by a child actor. Anupam Kher also stays with you even after the show has concluded. Sarika is excellent. Rahul Bose doesn't deliver this time, mainly because the role lacks meat. Rahul Khanna has a miniscule role. Ditto for Victor Banerjee.

On the whole, TAHAAN is for a niche audience, more for the festival circuit.

The new car would come with a 1.8 petrol litre engine in three different grades.
'This year's target is to sell 63,000 vehicles, and by fiscal 2015 we are aiming for a market share of about 10 per cent. The Altis marks our big step toward the achievement of this goal, 'Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) Vice-Chairman, Vikram Kirloskar, said.
The company, which sold about 50,000 units last year, currently enjoys around three per cent of the Indian passenger car market.
Toyota is also planning to introduce several new models in the near future to meet the target, he added. TKM plans to sell an average of 2,000 Corolla Altis a month.

Usually during my school days, I use to go to Madurai atleast once a year but after joining college I just went once in four years. I missed a lot and finally this time I didnot miss my chance to go there. We went there for Pongal on August 8,9,10 and we four, me, my brother and my two cousins as usual celebrated with our families. We use to go to temple in evenings and watch stage programmes in nights with our gang friends.
We slept at 4 in night and woke up at 8 in morning. The lunch for all three days were just amazing. There will be atleast two non-veg items, either chicken & mutton or chicken & fish. I enjoyed food and ate well after years because it was prepared by my grandma. We never had time to relax or sleep but we didnot wish for it either.
After three days of good enjoyment, we four returned home. Well my Madurai Trip was awesome and had lot of joy and fun. We thought of spending a week there but didn’t. Dont know when we will go there next time but definitely miss my village very much….

"He has done tremendously well after coming to the national team. He is the backbone of Indian cricket. The decision to give Dhoni the award has been taken with full support of all members in the selection committee," he stated. Milkha Singh also brushed aside reports that Indian ODI skipper's application was received late by the Sports Ministry. "The Sports Ministry has told me that they have received Dhoni's application before the deadline of July 27, but due to some internal hazards they were not able to trace the application. Kuselan Review

First of all, Kuselan is not the regular superstar film. It is just a film with superstar and on superstar.

By not a regular superstar film, I mean there are no powerful adversaries, no challenges, no revenge, no riches to rags to riches character graph. And a Rajnikant film without a villain is something we haven't seen in God knows how long!

Real meets reel as superstar Rajnikant plays Superstar Ashok Kumar and frankly, you can't tell the difference nor does director P Vasu want you to know the difference. Montage of Rajnikant films and references to superstar's life are thrown in liberally into the Tamil remake. Since the pace of the original is already slow, these elements further slacken the pace.

Performance-wise, superstar is a little subdued because he has to play himself. As a fan, I understand the expectation out of a regular Thalaivar film. Though it is closest to the real him, with Kuselan we realize that his screen persona is larger than the real him and it's like watching a tiger put inside a cage at the circus. We so want him to break free. To make up for the masala, Vasu unleashes glamour in the form of Nayanthara cavorting in the rain and has Vadivelu leer at her like a voyeur.

Like superstar himself says in the film: Watching a film being shot is not as exciting as watching a film. And Kuselan is a soppy drama with the shooting of a Superstar film being a mere backdrop. For people closely following his political ambitions, let me just say that superstar distances himself from the political punch-lines from his past films saying that he was only an actor saying his lines. And he hastens to add, that he does not have to answer to anybody about whether or not he will do something in the future. There's also a tinge of Superstar's personal philosophy when he reveals why he takes a trip to Himalayas every year.

Kuselan though slow is extremely watchable if you forget the hype. Go for it only if you are a sucker for sentiment. Let the taps flow. Bring out the hankies....

He added that the movie revolves around his character. He also said that the emotional climax would be on par with 'Chandramukhi'. He expressed his confidence that the movie would come out very well. Director P. Vasu said that the movie is Rajini’s movie and that no one needs to have any doubt about it. His character has been shaped to fulfill the expectations of his fans, he added. Well, Indian Cricket is going through a tuff phase. It is suffering from lack of good, efficient fast bowlers. We can easily count the number of good fast bowlers India had for the past 30 years. In the recent times, the only good bowler India had was Javagal Srinath and he too retired five years back. Still India is searching for an effiecient fast bowler.

Though many young bowlers got a chance to play for India, they didnot prove to be efficient. Ajit Agarkar, Zaheer Khan, Ashish Nehra, L.Balaji, Irfan Pathan, Sreesanth, R.P.Singh, V.R.V.Singh, Munaf Patel are some of the fast bowlers trying to make it to the Indian team. But they find it difficult to do it because of inefficiency. Indian Premier League(IPL) brought many young players to light and they proved to be promising. Some of them are Manpreet Gony, Ashok Dinda, Yomahesh, Praveen Kumar, Sidharth Trivedi and Ishant Sharma.

Though these players seem to be promising, they dont have enough experience to handle pressure. The only current fast bowler who bowls efficiently and with consistent speed is Ishant Sharma but he is overburdened much and hence he is also not able to perform much. Well, at least 46 people were killed in two days of bombings that hit Ahmedabad and Bangalore. At least 16 bombs exploded in Ahmedabad in Gujarat on Saturday, killing at least 45 people and wounding 161, a day after another set of blasts in Bangalore killed a woman. Two more unexploded bombs were found in Surat on Sunday. A little-known group called the ‘Indian Mujahideen’ claimed responsibility for the Ahmedabad blasts on Saturday. The same group said it carried out bomb attacks in Jaipur that killed 63 people in May. Many of the bombs were packed into metal tiffin boxes, used to carry food, and stuffed with ball-bearings. Some were left on bicycles. Police found two unexploded bombs in Ahmedabad on Sunday. The state Government ordered the closure of all shops, cinemas and markets and told people to stay indoors. Both the Ahmedabad and Bangalore are in states ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party and are among the country's fastest-growing. The entire nation, including major metro cities in India, have been put on high alert.

After each semester, there will be a break for the students usually for one month. The first two semesters had been completed on time. But then there were many faculty and HOC changes. The centre also got shifted to a new place. We saw some five faculties for third semester alone. The classes were not conducted properly but with some good faculties we completed third semester in time. Then we had a break for nearly more than a year. The classes didnot commence at all. Many of the students stopped the course and went to jobs. Atlast they started with a new HOC and now the classes are conducted regularly. Lets hope we finish our course and get our certificates soon….

Its a long dream for students like us to get a engineering degree. Once when I entered into my college, I lost my interest towards studies and started to enjoy my life. We, our gang, dint even listen to what the teachers said, instead were teasing them. We bunked classes for atleast twice a week, went to movies, stayed in friends’ rooms, boozed often whenever we got some money in our pocket, did all the things what a college student can do. The result, was the first arrear in my life, in my third semester. But I expected this because I felt lazy to buy the original book of that subject during my exam and experienced the pain. I didnot clear that paper till my sixth semester and finally cleared in seventh. In addition to this, I kept four different arrears in each of the semesters from fourth to seventh. Finally entered into the last semester of my engineering life. Days passed very soon as we were concentrating on our project works. Completed the project work successfully and started to prepare for our exams. As usual our gang me, Nitin, Subramani and Sridhar assembled in a common place, either in my place or Nitin’s place. Each one of them shared each subject with particular units and exactly three days before the exam,we shared what we studied. Successfully we completed our studies and also all the three exams. I had one arrear and thankfully got five days leave for it and studied all the five units without leaving any topic. Then fate came into play. When we received the question paper, everyone was shocked. Out of 100 marks, maximum 20 marks would have been from the book, rest was completely on own and we had no idea. We started to laugh for a moment, but then took it as a challenge and wrote for full 100 marks for exactly 3 hours. Came out of the hall with a satisfaction. Result came as ALL CLEAR. Though its not a big thing, it was a real achievement in life. And today when I got my certificates from college, cherished with joy, but didnot show it outside. However crossed the first half of my life and now comes the biggest challenge, with my career. Lets be positive and see how it goes….

Nobody expected this will happen on that day since it had never happened before. There was a feel of joy in everybody’s(including the staffs) heart when he entered our class. There was a huge loud of applauds from the entire class. Then the classes<>Then we were asked to go to our lab where we started our celebrations. There were snaps taken everywhere in the college right from the entrance gate to the canteen. Took snaps with other department friends too. Colourful powders were thrown over all of them. No one in the college was able to control the situation since it was done by IT STUDENTS. It seemed to be as if the day went off in a second. In the evening, there were hugs and handshakes all around. As usual we went to our favourite tea shop outside the college and celebrated there as well. Finally everyone left to their respective buses. The day started with cheers and ended in tears……..

Pondy Trip

The most memorable thing in our college is our trip to Pondichery. Actually we planned to go somewhere in Chennai. But suddenly we thought of making it a long one. So we decided to go to Pondy and six of our friends agreed. We started around 7.15 A.M and it took nearly 4 hours to reach there. After getting to a room, we started our party. Started with Fosters and took rest till evening. Then we went to a nearby beach in the evening and relaxed there. We had our dinner at around 8 in a French restaurant. Spent some good time there and left off to buy some booze for night. We reached our room and started the party. Then played cards for some time and enjoyed till 3 A.M. In the morning, we went to famous Vinayagar temple Aurobindho Ashram nearby and spent some time there. We had our lunch at Ram’s restaurant. Then bought booze, enjoyed as usual and the days went off. We spent three nights and four days in our hectic schedule. From then onwards, we started to go every semester holidays and the strength got increased each time. Cant forget those memorable days. CHEERS!!!!!

Besant Nagar Beach

Many memorable incidents happened to us in Besant Nagar Beach. We used to go there every weekend in our fifth semester and play football. The team was made depending on the strength on that particular day. We used to play till 6 in evening and then move to nearest coffee day. After that we would spend some time in the beach and enjoy the night. It was such an exciting place to hang on. Can’t forget those sweet memories. CHEERS!!!

Indian cricket team, led by Anil Kumble, arrived to play a three-Test series against Sri Lanka starting July 23. One-day and Twenty20 team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has opted out of this series, citing fatigue caused by non-stop cricket. The Indians will start their campaign with a three-day practice match against Sri Lanka Board XI from Friday. They play their first Test in Colombo from July 23. The Test series would be followed by a five-match ODI series. India has won only one of the four Test series they have played in Sri Lanka since 1985. Their previous tour in 2001 ended in a 2-1 defeat.
The Sri Lankan fans are eagerly waiting to witness Indian cricket maestro Sachin Tendulker reach yet another historic landmark by breaking West Indies Brian Lara’s record of maximum Test runs. He needs 172 runs to overhaul retired Lara’s record of 11,953 runs in Tests. At present, the 35-year old Tendulkar, playing his 20th international season, is on 11,782. Tendulkar, who made his Test debut against Pakistan in 1989, has so far played in 147 Tests, scoring 39 centuries and 49 half-centuries, averaging 55.31. A simple tale about group of young cool guys in Madurai during 1980 who have worries to care about their future lives. Azhagu (Jai), Paraman (Sasi), Kasi (Ganja Karuppu) and their handicapped friend are almost the roadside Romeos of the town. Azhagu is in love with Swathi whose belongs to the family of political background. Thulasi (Samuthirakani), uncle of Swathi has a very close relationship with these guys. Azhagu, Paramanan and other buddies in the group set-up a sound service rental in front of Thulasi’s home and now and then they get into problems. Well, Thulasi is the first one to step forward in bringing them out of troubles. Gliding with gleeful moments, these youngsters are now thrown into troublesome moments filled with lots of betrayals and vengeance.

‘An awesome movie’, these would be the remarking words that you will spell after watching this flick. An intensifying attempt from Director Sasi for brimming up with a perfect story and powerful narration that makes audiences glued to the screens right throughout the film. Chennai 600028 fame Jai shells out his best performance that looks more naturalistic. But in most of the scenes, his performance and gestures brings Karthi in Paruthiveeran. Probably, it may be due to the fact that Sasi worked with Ameer as assistant director and seemingly this could be the one fine reason. Not alone standing on the shoes of director does Sasi excel, for he does a mind blowing performance on the character of Paraman. Actress Swathi looks cool, but her performance is not up to our expectations for you can spot her all the time smiling and rolling her eyes.

Musical score by James Vasanth is a commendable approach for all the melodies have been well-tuned. Fine! It would have nice if he had come bit of improvised work on background score. A marvelous cinematography by Kathir makes the film more enhanced; especially the action sequences have been very well captured. Kathir has the detailed elements canned and obviously it’s a great for audiences. Director Sasi hasn’t focused more on the aspects of romance and fails a bit in drawing us in emotionally in few scenes. But violence dominates the most throughout the frames

In simple terms, ‘Subramaniapuram’ is a film that elevates Tamil Cinema to the next level in World Cinema. Splendiferous directorial by Sasi is praiseworthy and you people shouldn’t miss this film…

A dangerous precedent, says Left

The Left parties on Tuesday indicted the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) for setting a “dangerous precedent” with the Prime Minister being asked to personally intervene to mediate between the Ambani brothers. “The corporate houses are openly in the fray to lobby their interests in the run-up to the confidence vote [being faced by the Manmohan Singh government in the Lok Sabha],” the Communist Party of India (Marxist) said in a statement. The CPI(M) Polit Bureau said: “The PMO should not become the conciliation office for warring corporates, however desperate the ruling party may be to retain power.”

The CPI said it was shocking the Prime Minister and the PMO were being dragged into the corporate war.

Rejecting the Left’s allegation, the PMO said there was no question of the Prime Minister getting involved in corporate affairs. The PMO said Dr. Singh’s meeting with Reliance Industries chief Mukesh Ambani on Monday was part of his regular interaction with industry leaders.

IPL breaches Rule

In disclosing the name of Pakistani cricketer Mohammad Asif as the player who had tested positive during the recent edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the IPL or the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) did not breach the confidentiality clause of the World Anti-Doping Code.

The IPL did, however, violate its own anti-doping code in naming the player.

A report from Karachi, quoting a Pakistani official, had stated on Monday that the IPL had made a deviation from the WADA Code in publicly disclosing Asif’s name before his ‘B’ sample was tested.
